“Ryan Giggs Breaks Silence on Ten Hag’s Shocking Decision to Sell ‘One of the League’s Best'”

Manchester United’s defense saw significant changes this summer, with the arrival of three major signings while Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who has been hailed as one of the Premier League’s top defenders, was offloaded.

United legend Ryan Giggs praised Wan-Bissaka after his transfer to West Ham, calling him one of the best one-on-one defenders in the league. Wan-Bissaka, 26, was deemed surplus to requirements by manager Erik ten Hag, leading to his £15 million sale to the Hammers, a notable drop from the £50 million United paid Crystal Palace for him in 2019.

Despite his solid performances and nearly 200 appearances for United, Wan-Bissaka couldn’t develop his attacking game as expected, which likely influenced Ten Hag’s decision. United’s defensive overhaul included the addition of Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, and Noussair Mazraoui, with Mazraoui making an immediate impact in United’s 1-0 win against Fulham.

Reflecting on Wan-Bissaka’s departure, Giggs noted, “I would’ve stayed away from him, especially later in my career… one-on-one, I think he’s one of the best in the league.”

Wan-Bissaka expressed his excitement about joining West Ham and returning to London, where he looks forward to contributing to his new team. “It was a no-brainer for me to join West Ham… I’m excited and happy to be here,” he said. He also emphasized the importance of playing in his hometown and his commitment to giving his all for the club.
