“Declan Rice’s Bold Verdict on Rodri as Ballon d’Or Triumph Ignites Fierce Debate!”

Arsenal’s Declan Rice has often been pitted against Manchester City’s Rodri in the battle for Premier League midfield dominance, but even Rice himself admits that the Ballon d’Or winner is on another level.

Since his £105 million move from West Ham in 2023, Rice has been a powerful addition to Arsenal’s lineup. His presence has fueled the club’s pursuit of City’s Premier League title, sparking ongoing comparisons between him and City’s Rodri when they clash on the pitch. While Guardiola’s side made a last-minute attempt to bring Rice to Manchester, he ultimately chose Arsenal – a move that has intensified their on-field rivalry.

Last season, Rodri took home both the Premier League title and victory over Rice’s England in the Euro 2024 final. And just this week, Rodri was crowned the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner, settling the debate for many fans and leaving Rice in 26th place. Despite the competition, Rice has consistently voiced his respect for Rodri’s game, sharing his admiration openly.

“We’re different players, I feel,” Rice said in an interview with The Athletic. “Rodri, being Spanish, has always been a natural No. 6. You can see how his game reflects his years under Pep [Guardiola]. He’s a lot more structured than I am, whereas I play more off-the-cuff. This season, I’ve been more structured, but I’ve always leaned into playing with a bit more freedom.”

Rice added, “There are different things we bring to the game – but no doubt, he’s the best in the world.”

Rodri’s Ballon d’Or victory was celebrated by football’s elite at Monday’s ceremony in Paris. The City midfielder, who has evolved into a more offensive threat, took a subtle jab at Real Madrid’s absence, remarking, “Tonight, football won.” Reflecting on his growth, he said, “I was a traditional midfielder, but I knew I needed to be better in the final third. That’s the modern holding role; you’re like a striker, positioned in the attacking zone. I try to be the best version of myself, to lead and learn every day.”

Rodri also spoke about his off-field temperament, saying, “I am a very calm person until I get upset. I’m just a normal guy – you don’t have to be crazy. I’d like to thank God.”

Unfortunately for fans hoping to witness another Rodri-Rice showdown this season, that rivalry will be on pause. Rodri recently underwent surgery for a season-ending ACL and meniscus injury sustained in City’s 2-2 draw against Arsenal. Commenting on his recovery, Rodri said, “I’m focusing on healing, spending time with family, and resting. I’ll celebrate with those who supported me during the tough times.”
