Amari Niblack to Enter Transfer Portal After One Season with Texas
The Texas Longhorns are set to lose tight end Amari Niblack after just one season in Austin, according to a report from Matt Zenitz of 247Sports. Niblack, who transferred to Texas from Alabama before the 2024 season, is expected to enter the transfer portal following a challenging year with the Longhorns.
Zenitz confirmed the news on Twitter, stating:
“Texas tight end Amari Niblack is expected to enter the transfer portal, a source tells @CBSSports/@247Sports. Niblack, who transferred to Texas from Alabama, had five catches this year. Had 20 catches and four touchdowns at Alabama in 2023.”
Niblack arrived in Austin with high expectations following a productive season at Alabama in 2023, where he recorded 20 receptions for 327 yards and four touchdowns. However, his impact at Texas was limited, managing just five catches for 33 yards throughout the season.
The Longhorns heavily leaned on tight end Gunnar Helm, who dominated the position and led the team with 60 receptions in 2024. Despite Helm declaring for the 2025 NFL Draft, Niblack has opted to explore opportunities elsewhere rather than stepping into a potentially larger role.
This decision leaves Texas with questions at the tight end position heading into 2025. While the team may turn to the transfer portal to bolster their offense, the Longhorns have been relatively quiet in portal acquisitions, with just four commitments so far this cycle, none of which are offensive players.
Niblack will have one year of eligibility remaining at his next program, and his proven track record from Alabama could make him an appealing option for teams seeking a reliable and experienced tight end.
Stay tuned as we follow Niblack’s transfer journey and Texas’s potential moves to fill the gap at tight end.
