Texas lands transfer commitment from ex-Ohio State DL

Texas Bolsters Defensive Line with Ohio State Transfer Hero Kanu

AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas Longhorns just landed a major addition to their defensive front, securing a commitment from former Ohio State defensive lineman Hero Kanu. The news was first reported by On3’s Hayes Fawcett on Wednesday morning.

Kanu, who spent three seasons with the Buckeyes, played a rotational role on Ohio State’s loaded defensive line but will look for an expanded opportunity in Austin. Over the past two seasons, Kanu recorded 14 tackles and 1 sack, playing 123 snaps in 2024, per Pro Football Focus.

A former four-star prospect out of California, Kanu was ranked as the No. 129 overall player in the 2022 class, according to 247Sports Composite rankings. His potential was evident when he signed with Ohio State, and now, Texas is betting on him to take a leap forward in Steve Sarkisian’s defense.

The Longhorns have made it clear that strengthening the defensive line is a top priority this offseason. Kanu becomes the third D-lineman to transfer to Texas, bringing their total transfer haul to five players so far. With Texas aiming for a dominant 2025 campaign, Kanu’s addition could be a key piece in fortifying the trenches.
