Longhorns in the Super Bowl

Texas Longhorns Represented on the Biggest Stage: Three Former Stars Set for Super Bowl LIX

No matter how Super Bowl LIX unfolds, one thing is certain—a Texas Longhorn will walk away with a championship ring.

From recent rookies to seasoned veterans, three former Texas standouts will take the field in New Orleans, continuing the program’s rich tradition of success at the highest level. The Longhorns’ legacy in the Super Bowl runs deep, dating back to defensive tackle John Elliott, who won with the New York Jets in 1969, to Charles Omenihu, who helped the Kansas City Chiefs secure last year’s title.

Now, Omenihu is back, joined by rookie sensation Xavier Worthy and Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Moro Ojomo, all looking to etch their names in championship history.

Charles Omenihu (Kansas City Chiefs – DE)

The most recent Longhorn Super Bowl champion, Charles Omenihu is on a mission to add another ring to his collection.

A fifth-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, Omenihu played for Texas from 2015 to 2018, where he racked up 115 tackles and 16.5 sacks, earning the Big 12 Defensive Lineman of the Year honor in 2018.

Drafted by the Houston Texans, Omenihu spent three seasons in the Lone Star State before being traded to the San Francisco 49ers in 2021. But his biggest career move came in 2023, when he signed a two-year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs.

In his first season with Kansas City, Omenihu tore his ACL during the AFC Championship Game against the Baltimore Ravens, but his team went on to defeat his former 49ers teammates, securing his first Super Bowl ring. Now, fully recovered and off the injury list, he’s ready to make an impact once again.

Xavier Worthy (Kansas City Chiefs – WR)

NFL rookie Xavier Worthy is proving why he was one of the most electrifying playmakers in Texas football history.

After leading Texas to a Big 12 Championship in their final season in the conference, Worthy declared for the NFL Draft, and his decision paid off. The Chiefs selected him in the first round (28th overall), betting on his game-changing speed and elite playmaking ability.

Worthy wasted no time making his presence felt—scoring two touchdowns in his NFL debut against the Baltimore Ravens. With injuries hitting the Chiefs’ receiver corps, he quickly became a key target for Patrick Mahomes.

If that wasn’t impressive enough, Worthy broke the NFL Combine 40-yard dash record, clocking in at 4.21 seconds, solidifying his status as one of the fastest players in the league. Now, he could be a starter on Super Bowl Sunday, helping Mahomes chase an unprecedented third straight title.

Moro Ojomo (Philadelphia Eagles – DT)

While Kansas City has two Longhorns, the Philadelphia Eagles are counting on Moro Ojomo to deliver on the biggest stage.

A seventh-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, Ojomo has steadily earned his spot in the Eagles’ defensive rotation.

Ojomo’s football journey has been unique—he was only 16 years old when he began his Texas career. After redshirting his freshman year, he developed into a reliable defensive force, finishing his five-year Longhorn tenure with a strong résumé before declaring for the NFL Draft.

Since joining the Eagles, Ojomo has played in 25 games, recording 23 tackles. Now, in his first Super Bowl appearance, he’s aiming to help Philadelphia claim its second-ever Lombardi Trophy.

Texas Legacy Continues

With Super Bowl LIX set for Sunday, Longhorn Nation will be watching closely. Will Charles Omenihu and Xavier Worthy help Kansas City secure another championship? Or will Moro Ojomo and the Eagles rise to the occasion?

No matter what happens, Texas football will once again be represented on the game’s biggest stage—and another Longhorn will bring home a Super Bowl ring.
