FROM COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina’s Oscar Adaway Named SEC Football Leadership Council Chair
COLUMBIA, S.C. – Big news for South Carolina football senior running back Oscar Adaway! The SEC Student-Athlete Leadership Council has officially named him as the SEC Football Leadership Council chair.
The appointment, first reported by GamecockCentral’s Mike Uva two weeks ago, was officially announced on Thursday. Adaway, chosen by his peers, steps into this leadership role for the first time, representing the interests of student-athletes across the conference.
According to a previous SECsports.com announcement, the SEC Student-Athlete Leadership Councils serve as a key communication channel between student-athletes and the conference office on issues related to student-athlete experience, wellness, and playing rules.
Adaway’s leadership extends far beyond the council. During a GamecockCentral interview, USC head coach Shane Beamer praised his veteran running back, recognizing him as a key leader for the future. “Oscar Adaway is a guy…I’ve seen him trying to take over that,” Beamer said when discussing potential team leaders for 2025.
Seven Years and Counting: Adaway’s Journey Continues
Heading into his seventh year of college football, Adaway has overcome multiple redshirts and injuries, but his determination remains strong. With the Gamecocks’ 2025 season approaching, he is expected to compete for the starting role. Whether it’s Adaway, Jawarn Howell, Rahsul Faison, or another standout, No. 27 is certain to play a major role in the South Carolina offense this fall.
Last season, Adaway contributed 440 yards of total offense and three touchdowns on 92 touches, with a third of those yards coming in the final two games. His 36-yard touchdown run against Illinois in the Citrus Bowl and a slick 14-yard shovel pass against Alabama stand out as his most electrifying moments.
Before transferring to South Carolina ahead of the 2024 season, Adaway spent five seasons at North Texas, amassing over 2,500 total yards and 18 touchdowns between his time with the Mean Green and the Gamecocks. Now, as a key leader on and off the field, he looks to leave an even greater mark in his final season.
