MiLaysia Fulwiley Shocks Fans with Transfer to Rival LSU After South Carolina Title Game Loss
Just five days after South Carolina’s heartbreaking loss to UConn in the 2025 NCAA national championship game, sophomore sensation MiLaysia Fulwiley dropped a bombshell: she’s entering the NCAA transfer portal.
While whispers of her potential departure had been circulating, many Gamecock fans clung to hope that the news wasn’t true—until Fulwiley made it official with an Instagram post on April 17. Her departure hit hard, given how instrumental she had been to South Carolina’s success over the past two seasons.
The rumor mill immediately kicked into overdrive, with one destination surfacing more than others—LSU, one of South Carolina’s fiercest rivals in the SEC. For a while, Fulwiley seemed to brush off those rumors, even shutting down speculation during an April 22 TikTok live where she commented:
“IM NOT GOING ON A VISIT ANYWHERE THAT WAS A LIE!”
—refuting viral reports that she had visited LSU.
However, all speculation ended on April 25, when Shea Dixon of On3 Sports confirmed that MiLaysia Fulwiley has officially transferred to LSU and will suit up for head coach Kim Mulkey in the 2025-26 season.
Fulwiley followed up with her own confirmation, posting to Instagram:
“Geaux Tigers 💜💛”

The move has turned heads not only because of the heated rivalry between LSU and South Carolina, but also due to the loaded backcourt Fulwiley is joining—led by standout guard Flau’jae Johnson.
Given the competitive depth on LSU’s roster, it’s clear that Fulwiley wouldn’t have made the leap unless she was assured of a starting role and more minutes than she saw with the Gamecocks. Either way, the upcoming SEC showdowns between LSU and South Carolina just got a whole lot more dramatic.
