LSU Head Coach Kim Mulkey is as known for her bold sideline style as she is for her basketball smarts—and she’s totally owning it. During her appearance on Get Gordon Presents with Gordon McKernan, Mulkey opened up about her signature high heels and how she pulls them off so effortlessly, game after game.
“I’m still healthy enough that I can get up and get down,” Mulkey joked. “I like to tell people, I just have those good old linebacker thighs.” The iconic coach explained that she’s worn heels for years and feels completely at ease in them. “It doesn’t faze me … I’ve always worn heels, and it’s very comfortable.” She even shared that she’s only ever thrown out one pair—for being too uncomfortable.
But flashy outfits and sky-high stilettos are strictly a game day look. On regular days, Mulkey keeps it low-key in sweats, tennis shoes, and no makeup. “I’m like everybody else when I’m not coaching,” she said with a laugh.
The interview took a touching turn when Kim Mulkey reflected on Angel Reese, her former star now playing her second WNBA season with the Chicago Sky. Reese recently returned to LSU as her team faced the Brazilian national team in an exhibition game at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center—and Mulkey was courtside to cheer her on.
“Angel just has a personality. She just attracts a lot of attention, and she’s authentic, and she’s a competitor,” Mulkey praised. “What is there not to like about Angel Reese when you’re pulling for her and she’s on your team?” She added that watching Reese in action reminded her of the talent she didn’t always fully appreciate during games. “She just has a knack for finding the basketball.”
Also returning for the night was Hailey Van Lith, another LSU alum recently drafted by the Chicago Sky. After the game, Mulkey greeted both Reese and Van Lith, offering them heartfelt gifts as a show of continued support.
