“Board Meeting Set: South Carolina Closing In on Elite O-Line Guru Randy Clements with Big-Time Résumé”

South Carolina is moving closer to finalizing a deal with longtime offensive line coach Randy Clements, GamecockCentral.com has learned.

Clements’ proposed contract must still receive approval from the University of South Carolina Board of Trustees, which is scheduled to meet Thursday morning at 9:00 a.m. The agenda includes several athletics-related personnel matters.

GamecockCentral.com previously identified Clements as a leading candidate for the position, including an exclusive update to subscribers on Wednesday.

Clements, currently the assistant offensive line coach at TCU, has deep ties to Kendal Briles, who is expected to become South Carolina’s next offensive coordinator. The two worked side-by-side at Baylor from 2008–2016, and later teamed up again at Houston (2018) and Florida State (2019).

Clements launched his coaching career at his alma mater, Stephen F. Austin, and his résumé includes stops at Houston, Baylor, Southeastern, FSU, Ole Miss, North Texas, and North Carolina.

Throughout his career, he has helped engineer some of the most productive offenses in college football. From 2010 to 2020, nine of the offenses he worked with finished inside the top 13 nationally.

At Baylor, Clements served as co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach from 2008 to 2011. Over the following five seasons, he became Baylor’s run game coordinator and offensive line coach, developing the Big 12’s Offensive Lineman of the Year for four consecutive seasons.

During his time there, his offensive linemen collected 13 all-conference honors and six All-American selections. He also coached eight NFL Draft picks, including two first-rounders in 2009 and 2011.

Before entering the college ranks, Clements worked at Stephenville High School in Texas, where he served as the offensive coordinator, offensive line coach, and head powerlifting coach.
