South Carolina fans may finally have a reason to exhale. Quarterback LaNorris Sellers returned to the practice field on Wednesday, and signs point toward him suiting up for Saturday’s matchup against Missouri, according to multiple sources.
Sellers went down in the second quarter of last week’s 31-7 loss to Vanderbilt after taking a helmet-to-helmet hit. He was later ruled out with what head coach Shane Beamer confirmed as a concussion. While his availability for Mizzou was initially in doubt, optimism has been building throughout the week that the sophomore quarterback will clear protocol in time.
Through 2 ½ games this season, Sellers hasn’t looked like the electric playmaker who carried South Carolina to nine wins in 2024. He has just 431 passing yards with two touchdowns and one interception, ranking 104th nationally with a 41.5 QBR. On the ground, he’s managed only 45 yards on 24 carries, averaging 1.9 yards per attempt with one score.
Still, ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported Wednesday that there are “positive signs” about Sellers’ availability:
“There’s optimism around the status of South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers for the game at Missouri on Saturday, per ESPN sources. He’s been in practice and there’s positive signs for his availability.”
The Gamecocks’ offense has struggled to find consistency, but Sellers’ return—even at 75 or 80 percent—could give them a needed boost. Backup Luke Doty stepped in against Vanderbilt, finishing 18-of-27 for 148 yards with a pick, but the attack never found a rhythm.

Beamer’s official injury report for Missouri is due Wednesday evening. All signs suggest it will include good news for South Carolina fans hoping to see their star quarterback back on the field for what already feels like a must-win game.
