South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer will officially remain at the helm in 2026, athletics director Jeremiah Donati confirmed to The State’s Jordan Kaye on Tuesday evening.
The announcement solidifies what many around the program already expected and arrives just days before the Gamecocks (4-7, 1-7 SEC) face longtime rival Clemson on Saturday.
South Carolina is wrapping up a frustrating 2025 campaign—one that followed a 9-4 season and a near miss of the College Football Playoff. Instead, this year’s team repeatedly let late leads slip away, falling in the fourth quarter to Missouri, Alabama, and Texas A&M, while remaining competitive but unable to close against Ole Miss and LSU.
Beamer made major staff changes during the season, dismissing offensive coordinator Mike Shula and offensive line coach Lonnie Teasley.
Despite the setbacks, the fifth-year coach has emphasized his commitment to turning the program around.
“We’re not there right now,” Beamer said last week, “but I do know next year at this time, we’re going to be sitting here on this Tuesday night watching the playoff rankings to see where we are in ranking show. And we’re going to be firmly in the mix for a College Football Playoff berth next year at this time.”
Beamer added that the frustration of this season won’t be repeated.
“We’re all sick about this feeling, but we’re not going to go through this thing again, and we’re going to finish this season out the right way,” he said. “And then the minute that thing hits zero on the clock after the Thanksgiving Weekend game (vs. Clemson), we’re full speed ahead on 2026.”
With Clemson up next and a critical offseason ahead, Beamer now moves forward knowing he has the athletic department’s full backing as he begins shaping the future of the program.
