“Dawn Staley’s Brought-up and former Gamecocks stars STUN the WNBA with History records- fans are buzzing”

Gamecock Legends A’ja Wilson and Allisha Gray Make WNBA History with Player of the Month Honors

South Carolina women’s basketball continues to leave its mark on the professional stage, as two of the program’s brightest stars — A’ja Wilson and Allisha Gray — etched their names into WNBA history on Wednesday. Both former Gamecocks earned Player of the Month honors, with Wilson taking home the Western Conference award and Gray claiming the Eastern Conference award.

For Wilson, the accolade carries historic weight. The Las Vegas Aces superstar captured her 13th career Player of the Month honor, surpassing Tina Charles’ record of 12 to become the league’s all-time leader in monthly awards.

Meanwhile, Gray’s recognition also broke new ground. The Atlanta Dream guard earned her third Player of the Month honor in 2025, making her the first guard in WNBA history to win the award three times in a single season.

Both Gamecock greats also secured three Player of the Week nods each in August, cementing their dominance across the league.

Wilson’s Record-Breaking Run

Wilson’s award came on the strength of one of the most dominant stretches in recent memory. She averaged 25.5 points, 11.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.8 blocks, and 1.4 steals per game in August, notching eight double-doubles along the way.

Her month included a performance for the ages — the first-ever 30-point, 20-rebound game in WNBA history. Behind her efforts, the Aces ripped off a 12-game winning streak to climb into the No. 2 spot in the standings, positioning themselves as serious championship contenders.

On the season, Wilson continues to shine with averages of 23.4 points, 10.1 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 2.2 blocks, and 1.6 steals per game. Already a three-time MVP, she is firmly back in the conversation for both MVP and Defensive Player of the Year. If she wins the former, she would set yet another milestone as the first player to claim four WNBA MVP awards.

Gray’s Breakthrough Season

For Gray, her Player of the Month recognition highlights what has been a career-defining year. The Dream guard averaged 19.4 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 2.9 assists in August, leading Atlanta to a 9-3 record that elevated them into the No. 3 seed in the playoff hunt.

Gray’s impact has been felt across the board in 2025, as she is currently enjoying her best statistical season yet. She holds averages of 18.6 points, 5.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.1 steals per game, while shooting 37.8% from three-point range and 80% from the free-throw line.

Her consistency and leadership have fueled Atlanta’s resurgence, turning the Dream into one of the league’s toughest teams heading into the postseason.

A Gamecock Legacy in the WNBA

Together, Wilson and Gray’s achievements underscore the lasting influence of South Carolina’s women’s basketball program. From winning national titles in Columbia to now rewriting the record books in the WNBA, both stars have shown the ability to raise the bar year after year.

With Wilson chasing yet another MVP crown and Gray steering Atlanta toward one of its best playoff pushes in franchise history, the Gamecock duo has proven that their dominance stretches far beyond college basketball.
