South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer made several major staff changes during the 2025 season, parting ways with two assistants mid-year and a third after the season concluded. Among those departures was offensive line coach Lonnie Teasley, who had been part of the program since 2021 and was elevated to full-time OL coach in 2023. Teasley was dismissed shortly after the Gamecocks’ early October loss to LSU.
Now, it appears Teasley has landed a new opportunity. According to a report from the Omaha World-Herald’s Sam McKewon, the Nebraska Cornhuskers are “expecting to add” Teasley to their offensive coaching staff. Nebraska has not yet officially confirmed the hire or clarified what role he will assume in Lincoln.
The timing is notable, as Huskers head coach Matt Rhule recently hinted that a “major impact” coaching addition was on the way. Although Teasley had difficulty building a consistently strong offensive line during his tenure in Columbia, he was instrumental in South Carolina’s recruiting success up front. Since the 2023 cycle, the Gamecocks have signed ten blue-chip offensive line prospects, all recruited by Teasley.
Teasley also has previous ties to Rhule, having served under him at Temple in 2014 as an off-field assistant offensive line coach.
In Nebraska, he’ll also reconnect with another former South Carolina staffer. Tight ends coach Marcus Satterfield, who served as USC’s offensive coordinator in 2021 and 2022, has been with the Cornhuskers since 2023. Though Satterfield eventually lost playcalling duties, he and Teasley overlapped in Columbia for two seasons. While Teasley was not officially an on-field assistant during that time, he stepped in for offensive line coach Greg Adkins during health-related absences.
After Teasley’s departure from South Carolina, tight ends coach Shawn Elliott temporarily took over offensive line duties. Meanwhile, Shane Beamer continues to rebuild his offensive staff heading into 2026, and all indications suggest the Gamecocks will soon have a new permanent leader for the offensive line room.
