Former All-SEC South Carolina tight end signs with new NFL squad

Former Gamecock Tight End Nick Muse Finds New NFL Home with the Los Angeles Rams

Former South Carolina tight end Nick Muse has a new opportunity in the NFL. On Tuesday, the Los Angeles Rams announced the addition of Muse to their practice squad, giving the former Gamecock another shot with a Super Bowl-caliber team.

Muse, who won a Super Bowl ring last season with the Philadelphia Eagles, joins a Rams organization that values tight ends in its offensive scheme. So far this season, four different Rams tight ends — led by veteran Tyler Higbee — have combined for seven touchdown receptions. Muse will start out as one of two tight ends on the practice squad, alongside Mark Redman.

Before signing with Los Angeles, Muse had stints with several NFL franchises, including the Minnesota Vikings, Philadelphia Eagles, and Arizona Cardinals. He had multiple runs with both the Vikings and Eagles as he worked to establish himself in the league.

Muse’s football journey began at William & Mary, where he played for two seasons before transferring to South Carolina in 2018. Over three years in Columbia, he became a reliable target at tight end, totaling more than 800 receiving yards and three touchdowns despite missing time due to injury.

A torn ACL in 2019 sidelined him for part of that season, but Muse made a strong comeback in 2020, earning All-SEC honors in the COVID-shortened campaign. In just 10 games, he recorded 425 receiving yards, including a 131-yard performance against Georgia, which still ranks among the top five single-game marks for a tight end in South Carolina history.

Only a handful of Gamecock greats — Josh Simon (2024), Jaheim Bell (2021), Hayden Hurst (2016, 2017), Jared Cook (2008), Danny Smith (1987), and Clyde Bennett (1952) — have matched Muse’s production from that 2020 season. Impressively, several of those names, including Bell and Cook, also played other positions during their standout years.

Following his collegiate career, Muse was selected in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings, where he began his professional journey.

Now with the Los Angeles Rams, Muse has another chance to showcase the talent and determination that made him a standout at South Carolina — and perhaps carve out a lasting role in one of the NFL’s most dynamic offenses.
