Gamecock Commitments Shine as Playoff Action Heats Up Across the Country
As high school football playoffs roll on across the country, several South Carolina football commitments are still battling for championships — and many are putting up standout performances that have the Gamecock staff and fans buzzing.
Head coach Shane Beamer’s 2025 recruiting class features a strong mix of offensive weapons, defensive enforcers, and rising playmakers — and this past weekend, several of them made their mark in postseason action. Here’s a closer look at how South Carolina’s future stars fared as playoff dreams continued.
Quarterback Command: LaNorris Sellers’ Heir Shines Bright
One of South Carolina’s most intriguing commitments, QB Landon Duckworth, continues to lead Jackson (AL) High School deep into the Alabama state playoffs. Duckworth — known for his poise and deep-ball accuracy — put together another sharp performance, throwing for over 200 yards and 3 touchdowns in his team’s second-round win.
Duckworth’s ability to extend plays and hit receivers in stride has been a staple of his game all season. He’s now totaled over 2,400 yards of offense and 29 total touchdowns this year, showing why South Carolina identified him early as a key piece of its offensive future.
“Landon’s leadership and control of the offense are special for a player his age,” one local coach said. “He just makes everything look smooth.”
Defensive Stars Dominate
On the other side of the ball, several Gamecock defensive commits continue to wreak havoc for their respective high schools.

Four-star defensive lineman Amaris Williams, who’s been a cornerstone of his Clinton (NC) defense, delivered another monster outing in the playoffs — racking up two sacks and multiple tackles for loss. Williams’ explosive first step and physicality have made him one of the most feared linemen in his region.
Meanwhile, LB Fred “Pop” Johnson of Buford (GA) helped anchor one of the toughest defenses in the state. Johnson recorded 10 total tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble as Buford cruised through the second round.
South Carolina linebackers coach Sterling Lucas has been especially high on Johnson’s potential, calling him “a smart, physical player who fits perfectly into what we do defensively.”
Offensive Skill Weapons Keep Rolling
Future Gamecocks on offense are also making plenty of noise.
Three-star wide receiver Malik Clark of Charlotte (NC) Independence hauled in six receptions for 118 yards and a touchdown, showing off his blend of size and burst. Clark’s ability to create separation on vertical routes continues to impress scouts.
Elsewhere, running back commit Zay Brown of Warner Robins (GA) turned in a workhorse performance with 134 rushing yards and two touchdowns, helping his team advance to the state quarterfinals.
Brown’s combination of speed and vision has been a highlight all season — and he’s quickly becoming one of South Carolina’s most underrated offensive pledges.
In-State Talent Making Noise
Closer to home, several South Carolina-based commits also remain alive in their playoff hunts.
DT Jordan Thomas of Summerville (SC) had another strong showing, logging eight tackles and a key sack in a 35–21 victory. Thomas has been praised for his motor and leadership — qualities that fit the culture Shane Beamer has built in Columbia.
Meanwhile, WR/ATH Chris Lawson from Greenville High continued to flash his versatility, contributing both as a receiver and special teams weapon. Lawson finished with a touchdown reception and a 75-yard kickoff return, proving why the Gamecocks are eager to get him on campus.
Coaches Taking Notice
According to On3’s insiders, the South Carolina coaching staff has been in close contact with many of these recruits, celebrating their postseason runs and keeping tabs on their performances. The message from Beamer’s camp remains consistent: finish strong and bring that same energy to Columbia.
“Coach Beamer and Coach (Dowell) Loggains always check in after our games,” said one offensive commit. “They’re big on competing and finishing the right way, no matter what level you’re playing at.”
What’s Next for South Carolina’s Recruiting Class
With the early signing period just weeks away, South Carolina’s 2025 recruiting class remains in solid shape — and could see more movement as playoff stars continue to turn heads.
Several uncommitted prospects have also been in contact with the Gamecock staff, impressed by the strong showings of future teammates and the opportunity to contribute to a program that’s building for the long term.
For now, though, South Carolina fans can sit back and enjoy watching their future Gamecocks shine under the Friday night lights, as they push toward championship dreams before trading their high school colors for garnet and black.
Bottom Line:
The playoffs are proving what Shane Beamer and his staff already knew — South Carolina’s 2025 recruiting class isn’t just talented; it’s battle-tested, competitive, and ready to bring that winning mentality to Columbia.
