Gamecocks Drop Second Straight as Offensive Struggles Mount Against Missouri

South Carolina fans are frustrated after watching the Gamecocks fall 29-20 to Missouri, marking their second consecutive defeat.

Just a week removed from a blowout loss at home to Vanderbilt, South Carolina’s hopes of contending in the SEC—and any outside shot at the College Football Playoff—have all but vanished. What was supposed to be a breakthrough season has instead been marred by offensive woes.

Mike Shula, promoted to offensive coordinator last December, has been under increasing scrutiny. The Gamecocks actually led at halftime against Missouri but managed only six points the rest of the way.

Frustrated fans took to social media during and after the game, voicing displeasure with Shula’s play-calling and the unit’s lack of rhythm.

Quarterback LaNorris Sellers did everything he could to keep South Carolina competitive, throwing for 302 yards and two touchdowns. But without a running game, the offense was completely one-dimensional. The Gamecocks finished with -9 rushing yards on 22 attempts, including Sellers’ 10 carries for -28 yards. That imbalance left the Missouri defense free to key in on the pass.

The loss drops South Carolina into a tough spot with Kentucky looming next weekend. After that, the Gamecocks enter a brutal stretch—five straight games against opponents currently ranked in the top 14.
