South Carolina fans are asking a familiar question this offseason: Will LaNorris Sellers still be the Gamecocks’ quarterback in 2026?
After a sophomore year that fell short of expectations, Sellers suddenly has multiple paths in front of him. He even fueled speculation with a cryptic social media post just minutes before major coaching news broke in Columbia.
That announcement: Kendal Briles has been hired as South Carolina’s new offensive coordinator. Shane Beamer managed to secure his top choice, bringing Briles over from TCU.
Briles arrives with an extensive résumé, including high-profile stops at Baylor, Houston, Florida State, and Arkansas — plus prior experience in the SEC. No matter where he’s been, his offenses have consistently performed at a high level, something South Carolina desperately needs after a difficult 2025.
The Gamecocks finished near the bottom of the SEC statistically, ranking 15th in total offense and 14th in scoring. Sellers’ production dipped significantly, and the unit struggled so much that Mike Shula was fired with three regular-season games remaining. Now it’s up to Briles to stabilize and elevate the offense — and priority No. 1 is convincing Sellers to stay.
Will LaNorris Sellers Remain a Gamecock?
There’s been plenty of speculation about his next move. Some believe Sellers might transfer to a program with a more stable offensive identity and proven playmakers. Others think he may skip college entirely and test the NFL Draft. Just three months ago, he was viewed as a legitimate first-round prospect, and some franchises may still be intrigued despite his struggles in 2025.
South Carolina is doing everything it can to keep him. Hiring the right offensive coordinator was the first piece. Building an environment that allows Sellers — and the rest of the young offense — to thrive is the next step.
So far, no major offensive weapons have entered the portal, including Sellers’ younger brother, Jayden. Last offseason, the Gamecocks fought off multiple suitors and paid heavily to keep their QB1 in Columbia. The question now: Can they pull it off again?
Sellers’ Cryptic Social Media Post Raises Eyebrows
Sellers’ recent Instagram post hasn’t done much to calm the conversation. He shared several photos from the past season with no caption, only a song — “9” by Dean Blunt and Panda Bear.
The lyrics he chose include:
“Got a ripple on my back / With and without you / And all the moments past / Are leaking out my mouth”
“Are all the gears all broken? / Are all the gears all broken? / All of the wheels
