South Carolina football is set to light up Williams-Brice Stadium on Saturday night for its 2025 home opener, as the Gamecocks welcome in-state opponent South Carolina State. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m. under the lights, with the game available exclusively via streaming on ESPN+ and SEC Network+, rather than on traditional national television.
The Gamecocks enter their first home game of the season riding momentum after a strong Week 1 performance. Their victory over Virginia Tech not only gave them a perfect start to the year but also boosted them into the national spotlight. South Carolina cracked the top 10 in this week’s AP Poll and landed at No. 11 in the USA Today Coaches Poll, marking a big early-season statement.
History on the Line
This weekend’s matchup will renew a rarely played in-state rivalry. The two programs haven’t met since 2022, when weather forced the game to move up to a Thursday night due to an approaching hurricane. That contest ended in dominant fashion for the Gamecocks, who rolled to a 50–10 win. History also favors Carolina: South Carolina has never lost to SC State.
Uniform Reveal
Alongside the excitement for the home opener, fans got a sneak peek at the gameday look. South Carolina’s football program took to social media on Saturday afternoon to unveil its uniform combo:

“Tonight’s fit 🤙,” the post read as the video revealed the full look.
The Gamecocks will take the field in black helmets, garnet jerseys, and garnet pants. The black lids, first introduced in the season-opening win over Virginia Tech, feature a bolder Block C decal that mirrors the 2024 throwback white helmets but on a sharper, darker canvas.
This particular black-garnet-garnet combination carries some good history with it, too. The Gamecocks wore it just once last season—in the opener against Old Dominion—and came away with a win. In fact, the 2024 squad lost just one game while donning garnet jerseys, falling to Ole Miss in October. For the uniform-conscious portion of the fanbase, that’s an encouraging omen.
New Look for Williams-Brice
Earlier this week, South Carolina also debuted fresh end zone designs to welcome fans back to Williams-Brice for the new season. The revamped field aesthetics add to the excitement and energy surrounding the opener.
Setting the Stage
With a top-10 ranking, a home crowd eager to see its team up close for the first time this season, and an unbeaten record against SC State, the Gamecocks are looking to keep momentum alive under the lights. Saturday night will be another opportunity for Shane Beamer’s squad to build on a promising start and show that they belong among the nation’s elite
