Bam Adebayo Honors A’ja Wilson’s Historic Fourth MVP: “Special Moment for a Special Person”
In a moving display of admiration and support, NBA star Bam Adebayo recently opened up about presenting A’ja Wilson with her record-setting fourth WNBA MVP trophy—a moment he described as deeply meaningful.
A Surprise Tribute
At a practice ceremony, Adebayo walked into the gym carrying Wilson’s MVP award, joining WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert in surprising her. Some expected the moment; Wilson did not. When she rose to see them approach, her emotions overwhelmed her.
“Special moment for a special person,” Adebayo said during his remarks. “To see somebody be the Mount Everest, the Mount Rushmore in their sport is something you can’t take for granted. To be able to give somebody flowers when they’re still here to smell them, that was a special moment for me and obviously everybody involved.”
A Friendship Beyond the Court
The two have shared support and presence through significant milestones. Wilson reportedly flew across the country to support Adebayo when he was being honored for his accomplishments with Team USA, and often attends his games when schedules align. (KSL)
Adebayo reflected on how their bond goes deeper than fandom.
“For me, being able to watch somebody that great and ask questions after the game. I feel like that’s the biggest way she’s helped me, just allowing me to ask questions and giving me honest answers.”
