Through seven games of the 2025 season, things haven’t unfolded the way South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers imagined. The Gamecocks have stumbled to a 3–4 record, plagued by persistent issues on the offensive side of the ball — and Sellers’ production has taken a hit as a result.
Still, there’s no denying the raw ability of the sophomore signal-caller. Even amid South Carolina’s offensive struggles, flashes of Sellers’ immense potential have continued to shine — enough to keep NFL scouts and analysts firmly in his corner.
That potential was highlighted this week when CBS Sports NFL Draft analyst Blake Brockermeyer projected Sellers as the No. 1 overall pick in his latest mock draft.

According to Brockermeyer’s mock, the New Orleans Saints would select Sellers with the top pick next spring — a move that would set up a reunion with former Gamecock Spencer Rattler, who is currently the Saints’ starting quarterback. Sellers redshirted during his freshman year in 2023, learning behind Rattler before taking over as South Carolina’s starter.
“If Sellers does end up in New Orleans, it’d be a full-circle story for the young quarterback,” Brockermeyer wrote. “He’s got the size, arm strength, and upside to develop into a franchise cornerstone.”
Meanwhile, another CBS analyst, Josh Edwards, projected Sellers to go No. 6 overall to the Cleveland Browns, further underscoring his growing reputation as a first-round prospect.
Sellers has appeared in multiple mock drafts this fall, often listed among the top quarterbacks in the 2026 NFL Draft class. While declaring early would offer a significant financial opportunity, Sellers still has two years of eligibility remaining should he decide to return to Columbia.
For now, though, the focus remains on finishing the season strong. Sellers and the Gamecocks still have five games left in the regular season, beginning with a massive test this Saturday against No. 4 Alabama at Williams-Brice Stadium.
Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on ABC, with streaming available via the ESPN app and ESPN+.
