There’s a packed weekend of college football ahead, and On3’s Pete Nakos has highlighted his top 10 matchups to watch. Among them is South Carolina’s SEC road test against LSU in Baton Rouge.
Nakos noted, “LSU and Brian Kelly are coming off the bye after losing at Ole Miss. Garrett Nussmeier’s health remains a concern as he deals with an abdominal injury. How he looks coming off a week of rest will be key to what the remainder of the season looks like for the Tigers. South Carolina already has two losses but could re-enter the CFP mix with a win in Death Valley at night.”
For South Carolina, a strong 2025 campaign will likely hinge on winning this one. The trip to Baton Rouge kicks off a grueling five-game stretch against AP Top 11 opponents.
Both teams are coming off bye weeks, but their circumstances differ — LSU’s last outing ended in a loss to Ole Miss, while South Carolina is seeking to regroup and make a statement under Shane Beamer.
The Gamecocks will also be chasing history on Saturday, as they look for their first win over LSU since 1994 — their only victory ever in Baton Rouge.
Last season, South Carolina’s playoff hopes were dashed by LaNorris Sellers’ injury and a few controversial calls. Many believe a different outcome in that matchup could have put the Gamecocks in the College Football Playoff conversation.
