Former South Carolina star quarterback Connor Shaw was hospitalized Wednesday night after reportedly collapsing while attending his 9-year-old son’s football game.
According to a source, Shaw was taken by ambulance to Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital, where he was admitted to the emergency room. As of late Wednesday night, his condition had not yet been made public.
Witnesses at the game shared on social media that Shaw either fell or passed out before medical personnel quickly attended to him.
Shaw remains one of the most decorated quarterbacks in Gamecock history. Playing from 2010–2013, he was elected to the South Carolina Athletics Hall of Fame in 2021 and still holds the program record for most wins by a quarterback. He closed out his career with 6,074 passing yards and 56 touchdowns.
After going undrafted, Shaw signed with the Cleveland Browns in 2014 and later spent time with the Chicago Bears before his NFL career ended in 2016. He briefly returned to South Carolina football in 2020 as quarterbacks coach for three games before taking on roles as director of player development and later as director of football relations.
Shaw, his wife Molly, and their family lived in Lexington for several years before relocating to the Upstate.
Several former teammates and Gamecock players sent words of encouragement as news spread.
“Prayers up for Connor Shaw!” former South Carolina running back Mike Davis wrote on X/Twitter.
“Prayers to my boy 14! Pull through!” added former USC defender Kaiwan Lewis.
