Records Falling Everywhere But South Carolina’s Record-Smashing Season Is About to Rewrite the Program Forever

As March intensifies and offensive numbers typically dip, the Gamecocks have somehow maintained historic efficiency and balance.

The numbers are staggering.

According to on3 reports, South Carolina is averaging 87.2 points per game with a plus-30.7 scoring margin — both on pace to surpass the previous program records of 85.4 points and plus-28.9 set in 2023-24. Even more impressive is the efficiency: the Gamecocks are shooting 51.0% from the field, which would mark just the second 50% shooting season in school history, trailing only the 52.7% posted in 1988-89.

What makes this team unique isn’t just volume scoring — it’s balance. All five starters are averaging double figures, with Raven Johnson right at 10.0 points per game. South Carolina hasn’t had five double-digit scorers since 1988-89, underscoring how rare this offensive distribution is in Columbia.

At the center of it all is Joyce Edwards, who continues to surge toward history. Despite a season-low nine points at Kentucky, Edwards is averaging 19.8 points per game on 59.0% shooting. She is attempting to join (22.6 ppg in 2017-18) as the only 20-point scorer of the Dawn Staley era. Outside of Wilson, only (23.9 ppg in 2002-03) has reached that mark in the past 30 years.

Edwards already has 18 20-point games and 615 total points. One more 20-point outing would break ’s sophomore record from 1993-94. She also has an outside shot at the single-season scoring record of 754 points set by .

Behind her, Ta’Niya Latson is averaging 14.6 points — technically a career low, yet historically strong. That average would have led South Carolina in scoring in 20 of the last 26 seasons and is the highest for a second-leading scorer since 2001-02.

Sharpshooter Tessa Johnson continues her climb into the record books, shooting 44.0% from three (73-of-166). Her career 43.5% mark trails only ’s 44.52% program record. With 154 career threes, she already ranks 10th all-time and could finish with three of the top ten single-season percentages in school history.

Inside, Madina Okot has been dominant, averaging 14.0 points and 10.9 rebounds. She’s on pace to become just the fourth player under to average a double-double, joining , Wilson, and . Okot has 20 double-doubles, chasing Boston’s program record of 30.

Meanwhile, Johnson’s 3.55 assist-to-turnover ratio would shatter ’ season (3.20) and career (2.55) records. She already ranks fourth in program history with 577 assists and is closing in on third.

Off the court, dominance continues. South Carolina is averaging 15,953 fans per game and is poised to lead the nation in attendance for the 12th straight season. Just 7,400 more tickets sold should secure that distinction again.

And one final milestone looms: after 31 regular-season games, a run to both the SEC and NCAA title games would give the Gamecocks 40 total games — setting a new single-season program record.

March isn’t just about championships for South Carolina. It’s about legacy.
