As of Thursday morning, Shaw, 33, was being treated in the medical ICU at Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital, according to a source.

Shaw is one of the most celebrated quarterbacks in South Carolina football history. From 2010 to 2013, he set the program record for most wins by a starting quarterback and finished his career with 6,074 passing yards and 56 touchdowns. His accomplishments earned him induction into the South Carolina Athletics Hall of Fame in 2021.

After college, Shaw signed with the Cleveland Browns in 2014 and later played for the Chicago Bears before leaving the NFL in 2016. He returned to his alma mater in 2020 as quarterbacks coach for three games and later transitioned to administrative roles, serving as the Gamecocks’ director of player development and, in 2021, as director of football relations.

Shaw and his wife, Molly, lived in Lexington for several years before relocating to the Upstate with their family.
