She’s Back! Former Gamecock Star Bree Hall Makes Stunning WNBA Return

Bree Hall is officially back in the WNBA. The Golden State Valkyries announced Wednesday that they signed the former South Carolina standout to a seven-day hardship contract, giving the two-time national champion another shot at the pros.

Golden State’s roster has been battered by injuries, creating the opening for Hall’s return. Guards Tiffany Hayes and Carla Leite both exited Sunday’s game against Phoenix with injuries, forcing the team to look for reinforcements.

This marks Hall’s second stint with the Valkyries this season. She previously joined the team from June 18–30 while Golden State dealt with roster shortages during the EuroBasket tournament. In that stretch, Hall suited up for two of five games and made the most of her limited opportunities.

Her WNBA debut was memorable — she scored three points, including a runner that went down as her first career basket. In her second outing, Hall didn’t score but grabbed a rebound, and that appearance came in front of her former coach, Dawn Staley, who was in attendance to support her. Shortly after, Golden State waived Hall as their roster returned to full strength.

Hall’s journey to the league has been anything but straightforward. She was drafted in the second round (20th overall) by the Indiana Fever in the 2025 WNBA Draft. She logged one preseason game with the team, dropping nine points against the Brazilian national team, but was waived the following day as the Fever finalized their roster.

Despite the bumps in her pro career, Hall’s college résumé remains one of the most decorated in recent South Carolina history. Over her four years in Columbia, she captured two national championships, four SEC regular-season titles, and three SEC tournament crowns. She was a crucial starter on South Carolina’s undefeated 2024 team, earning the nickname “Big Shot Breezy” for her defensive presence and clutch scoring in big moments.

Hall was the second of three Gamecocks selected in the 2025 draft. Te-Hina Paopao went earlier in the first round and has already carved out a role as a part-time starter for Atlanta, one of the league’s top teams. Sania Feagin was picked later and has been used sparingly off the bench for Los Angeles.

Now, Hall has another opportunity to prove herself in the league. She is expected to be available for the Valkyries’ next matchup against the Washington Mystics on Saturday.
