“Shock in Columbia: Gamecocks Star LaNorris Sellers Injured, and Helped Off Field Following a Brutal Hit”

South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers exited Saturday night’s matchup against Vanderbilt after taking a heavy hit late in the second quarter, and his return to the game appears unlikely.

The incident occurred with under two minutes left in the first half. Sellers dropped back to pass and connected with running back Rahsul Faison out of the backfield. Immediately after releasing the ball, Sellers absorbed a punishing blow from Commodores linebacker Langston Patterson.

The hit drew a targeting call against Patterson, who was subsequently ejected from the contest.

“LaNorris Sellers had to be helped off the field after this hit,” ESPN reported in a social media post showing the play.

Sellers stayed on the ground for several moments before being assisted to the sideline by trainers.

At halftime, Vanderbilt held a surprising 14–7 lead over the No. 11-ranked Gamecocks inside Williams-Brice Stadium.

Heading into Saturday’s game, Sellers had completed 23 of 38 passes for 337 yards and two touchdowns while also adding a rushing score. In the 2024 season, he threw for 18 touchdowns and ran for seven more while guiding South Carolina to a 9-4 record.
