“South Carolina Stars: Chloe Kitts, Ta’Niya Latson & Raven Johnson Steal the Show at South Carolina’s Spring Game!

Gamecocks Reload: South Carolina Stars Support Football Squad After Title Game Loss, Welcome Scoring Sensation Ta’Niya Latson

The South Carolina Gamecocks, led by standout Chloe Kitts, fell short in their bid to defend their national title. On April 6, the reigning champs were handed a tough 82-59 loss by the powerhouse UConn Huskies in the 2024 NCAA Women’s Championship, finishing the season as national runners-up.

Now shifting their focus to the offseason, several key members of Dawn Staley’s squad were spotted at the South Carolina football spring game, showing love to their fellow Gamecocks. Among those in attendance were Raven Johnson, Maryam Dauda, Adhel Tac, and newly committed star Ta’Niya Latson.

In a 27-second clip posted by sports anchor Noah Chast, the women’s basketball team was met with a rush of fans seeking selfies and autographs. The video opens with Latson and Dauda walking across the field, followed closely by Kitts and Tac, clearly enjoying the admiration of their supporters.

The spring game itself was a tight one, with Team Garnet edging out Team Black, 10-7. Freshman QB Cutter Woods led the way with 120 passing yards in his debut at Williams-Brice Stadium, giving fans a glimpse of what’s to come.

Meanwhile, the Gamecocks women’s basketball team looks to regroup after a strong 35-4 season, including a 15-1 SEC record, an SEC regular-season title, and a conference tournament championship. Though they came up short of winning back-to-back national titles and what would’ve been their fourth NCAA championship, the future still looks bright in Columbia.

One of the biggest reasons for that optimism? Ta’Niya Latson.

The dynamic guard and leading scorer in Division I women’s basketball last season announced her transfer to South Carolina for the 2025–26 campaign. After three stellar seasons with the Florida State Seminoles, Latson brings immediate firepower to the Gamecocks’ backcourt.

In her final year at Florida State, Latson averaged an NCAA-best 25.2 points per game, along with 4.6 rebounds, 4.6 assists, and 2.2 steals — a stat line that underscores her all-around impact.

As Coach Dawn Staley looks to push her squad back to championship contention, the addition of Latson and the return of leaders like Raven Johnson give South Carolina fans plenty to cheer about heading into next season.
