South Carolina doesn’t yet have a pledge for its 2027 recruiting class, but Shane Beamer and his staff are hoping that changes very soon. Over the weekend, four-star wide receiver Demarcus Brown announced he will reveal his college choice on Wednesday, December 4th — which falls on National Signing Day.
Brown also released his final five schools, and South Carolina made the shortlist. Joining the Gamecocks in his top group are Virginia, Vanderbilt, Oklahoma, and West Virginia.
At the moment, Virginia seems to hold the edge, but the Gamecocks have remained firmly in the mix ever since offering Brown in June. Speaking with Rivals earlier in the year, Brown shared that he appreciated the atmosphere around the program, saying he loved the Gamecock culture under Beamer and felt USC was a place where he could grow “as a player, as a student, and as a person.”
This fall, Brown visited four of the five programs in his final group — including South Carolina — for gameday trips.
Brown is known for his big-play ability. At 6-foot-3, he combines size with physicality, giving him the ability to win contested catches and attack the ball at its highest point. He’s an explosive athlete with strong leaping ability and good speed.
A standout basketball player as well, Brown moves fluidly and naturally, showing excellent footwork and a knack for “boxing out” defenders to secure position when the ball is in the air.
In the Rivals Industry Ranking, Brown is listed as the No. 331 overall prospect in the country, the No. 42 wide receiver nationally, and the 7th-ranked player in Virginia, regardless of position.
The Gamecocks currently have just one receiver commitment in the 2026 class — four-star Sequel Patterson — meaning South Carolina could look to bring in a larger wideout group for 2027. Brown is one of 13 wide receivers USC has offered in the ’27 cycle, per the Rivals database.
