USC Athletics confirmed Wednesday they’re closely tracking weekend weather forecasts and coordinating with local officials, Vanderbilt, and the SEC office about possible weather-related impacts, according to a statement given to The State.
The National Weather Service predicts a 70% probability of freezing rain and sleet Saturday in Columbia, with temperatures reaching 40 degrees. Sunday’s forecast shows a 100% chance with a 37-degree high.
However, following Friday consultations, the matchup between No. 2 South Carolina and No. 4 Vanderbilt remains scheduled despite an approaching winter storm.
Officials from both universities, local government representatives, and meteorologists convened Friday to evaluate alternatives. Vanderbilt traveled to Columbia Friday morning.
At 6:45 PM Friday, the contest is still planned for Sunday, January 25 at 3:00 PM. Discussions continue, with additional information expected Saturday.
