“WNBA Shocker: Former Gamecock Star Mikiah Herbert Harrigan Cut Before Season Tip-Off!”

Mikiah “Kiki” Herbert Harrigan, a former South Carolina Gamecocks standout, has been waived by the Dallas Wings during the 2024 WNBA training camp. The roster update was officially announced by the team on Saturday and later appeared in the league’s transaction report on Sunday.

Herbert Harrigan had not yet suited up for a regular-season game with the Wings, who had acquired her from the Phoenix Mercury on February 2 in a major four-team trade. She was subsequently signed to a training camp contract by Dallas on February 24 in hopes of earning a permanent roster spot.

The 2023 season marked just the second full WNBA season for Herbert Harrigan, where she appeared in 31 games with Phoenix, averaging 3.2 points in 10.8 minutes per game.

Originally selected as the No. 6 overall pick in the 2020 WNBA Draft by the Minnesota Lynx, Herbert Harrigan showed early promise but saw her career interrupted by trades and personal milestones. After her rookie season, she was traded to the Seattle Storm, but appeared in only one game before missing the remainder of the 2021 season due to pregnancy. The Storm waived her just two days before the start of the 2022 season.

She was absent from the WNBA during the 2022 and 2023 seasons, instead playing professionally overseas in Turkey and London.

A decorated collegiate athlete, Herbert Harrigan played at South Carolina from 2017 to 2022, contributing to the Gamecocks’ first national championship in 2017 as a freshman. She later earned All-SEC honors and was named SEC Tournament MVP during her breakout 2019-2020 season.

Though her latest WNBA stint has come to a pause, Herbert Harrigan’s talent and resilience continue to mark her as a player with potential for a return.
