Angel Reese Fires Back at Critics After Major Personal Announcement

Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese continues to stay in the spotlight — not just for her performance on the court, but for speaking out boldly on issues that matter to her.

The 22-year-old former first-round pick has made headlines in recent months, especially surrounding her outspoken comments about WNBA salaries and the upcoming collective bargaining agreement (CBA).

Back in October, Reese sparked conversation when she revealed that her rookie salary of $73,439 wasn’t enough to cover her expenses.

I just hope y’all know, the WNBA don’t pay my bills at all. I don’t even think that pays one of my bills. Literally,” she said during an Instagram Live, highlighting that her $8,000-a-month rent alone totaled $96,000 annually.

She added humor to the serious topic, joking that her WNBA check could barely take care of her car payment.

But Reese didn’t stop there. She went viral again weeks later for declaring that if the league doesn’t meet salary expectations in the next CBA, players are prepared to take a stand.

I need to be in the meetings because I’m hearing that if [the league] don’t give us what we want, we’re sitting out,” she stated.

Now, heading into her second season with the Sky, Reese is back in the headlines — this time for celebrating two huge personal milestones:
She bought her first home and officially retired her mother, both of which she proudly marked off her vision board.

Fans of the Sky showed overwhelming support for her wins on social media. But in classic Angel Reese fashion, she also made sure to send a message to her critics — many of whom have been vocal about her lifestyle and choices off the court.

They said ‘she need to cover up’ so I went cover on VOGUE. They said ‘she can’t afford her rent’ so I went & bought a house. thank yaaaa💋,” she posted on X, clapping back with flair.

This isn’t her first time calling out the haters. After announcing a major signature shoe deal with Reebok in October, Reese fired off another punchy tweet:

Looks like I can ‘afford’ my bills now.

Earlier this year, Reese faced criticism for sharing revealing New Year’s Eve photos, prompting her to temporarily wipe her socials. But a week later, she returned stronger — and sassier — posting:

I ‘covered up’ and gave y’all COVERGIRL. 💋

From the court to the covers of magazines, Angel Reese is not only making moves — she’s doing it unapologetically, on her own terms.
