OFFICIAL: SEC transfer forward Madina Okot commits to Dawn Staley, South Carolina

Dawn Staley delivered on her March promise to add size and strength to the South Carolina Gamecocks‘ frontcourt—and she did it in a big way.

During an appearance on the “Carolina Calls” radio show, Staley hinted that the Gamecocks were eyeing a traditional post player via the transfer portal. Just a month later, that vision came true with the commitment of Madina Okot, a standout forward from Mississippi State, as first reported by Talia Goodman of On3 Sports.

The 6-foot-6 Okot becomes the tallest player on the current USC roster and is the second portal addition, following former Florida State scoring sensation Ta’Niya Latson.

In her lone season at Mississippi State, Okot was a dominant force—averaging 11.3 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks per game. Her 64.9% shooting from the field led the SEC, and she logged an impressive 12 double-doubles, including a monster 21-point, 23-rebound performance against Vanderbilt.

When she faced South Carolina this season, Okot recorded 4 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 blocks, showcasing her rim protection and rebounding prowess.

Before her collegiate career in the U.S., Okot played for Zetech University in her native Kenya and represented the Kenyan national team from 2022 to 2024. Her physical gifts—an 8-foot-8 standing reach and 6-foot-10 wingspan—make her a game-changing presence in the paint.
