Kamilla Cardoso Shines for Struggling Chicago Sky, Heads to AmeriCup with Team Brazil
The Chicago Sky have faced a rocky start to their 2025 WNBA season, holding a 4-10 record and sitting fifth in the Eastern Conference after 14 games. Offensively and defensively, the team has struggled—ranking 12th out of 13 teams in scoring at just 77.9 points per game, while allowing a league-worst 88.2 points per game.
Amid the turbulence, Kamilla Cardoso has stood out as a rare bright spot. The second-year center has appeared in all 14 games so far, posting averages of 12.7 points, 6.6 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 0.8 blocks in just over 23 minutes per game.
However, the Sky will now have to navigate a critical stretch without Cardoso, as she departs to join Brazil’s national team for the 2025 FIBA AmeriCup, which kicks off June 28 in Santiago, Chile. Cardoso will miss at least three upcoming games during her absence.

Ahead of her departure, Cardoso shared a message on Instagram, writing:
“Smiling through it all 😄✨.”
Before making her professional debut in 2024, Cardoso starred at South Carolina under Hall of Fame coach Dawn Staley, capturing two NCAA championships and being named Most Outstanding Player of the 2024 Final Four. The No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, she earned a spot on the All-Rookie Team, averaging 9.8 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks in 32 games (29 starts).

At the AmeriCup, Brazil is in Group A with Argentina, Canada, El Salvador, and the Dominican Republic. The tournament concludes July 6, and Cardoso is expected to be a major contributor once again.

Meanwhile, Chicago faces a tough test without her, with upcoming road games against the Golden State Valkyries, Los Angeles Sparks, and Minnesota Lynx—a stretch that will challenge the team’s depth as they look to turn their season around.
