WNBA Weekly Recap: Gamecocks Shine, Struggle, and Shift Roles Across the League
It may have been a relatively quiet week in the WNBA, but several former South Carolina stars still found themselves in the spotlight—headlined by standout performances, roster moves, and continued growth on and off the court.
Allisha Gray (Atlanta Dream)
Gray continued her impressive season, earning a well-deserved All-Star starting nod. Despite a shooting slump against Seattle, she managed a double-double, tallying 12 points and 11 rebounds in a narrow 80-79 loss. The veteran guard is averaging 19.1 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game while shooting a sharp 41.5% from beyond the arc.
Te-Hina Paopao saw limited action with only 6 minutes off the bench despite Rhyne Howard’s absence. Her consistent shooting remains noteworthy (47.6% from three), but she’s still fighting for more playing time.
Kamilla Cardoso (Chicago Sky)
Cardoso missed Chicago’s game due to international duty at the FIBA AmeriCup, where she helped Brazil reach the final. She returns this week to resume her strong rookie campaign (12.7 PPG, 6.6 RPG).
Tyasha Harris (Dallas Wings)
Harris underwent season-ending knee surgery after suffering an injury in late May. Her five-game stint was productive, averaging 4.6 points and 2.6 assists.
Laeticia Amihere & Bree Hall (Golden State Valkyries)
Amihere remained on Golden State’s roster after EuroBasket players returned but was a DNP in the Valkyries’ lone game. Hall, meanwhile, was waived to make roster space. Despite limited minutes, Hall’s effort may keep her on the radar for future WNBA opportunities.
Aliyah Boston (Indiana Fever)
Boston continues to anchor Indiana’s frontcourt and deliver elite production. She averaged over 21 points and 9.5 rebounds across two official games this week and recorded a double-double in the Commissioner’s Cup final, even though that performance doesn’t count in season stats.
A tough loss to the Sparks saw her miss a game-tying shot, but Boston’s dominance remains unquestioned.
A’ja Wilson & Tiffany Mitchell (Las Vegas Aces)
Wilson remains in MVP form, averaging 21.9 points, 9 rebounds, and leading the league in blocks (2.6). She poured in 29 points against Indiana despite the loss and added 19 in a bounce-back win over Connecticut.
Mitchell, however, was waived as part of a salary move to acquire NaLyssa Smith. The veteran guard averaged 3.7 points in 13.1 minutes per game over 16 appearances.
Sania Feagin (Los Angeles Sparks)
Feagin did not play in either game this week. The rookie is still finding her footing and has logged just five total appearances this season.
Zia Cooke (Seattle Storm)
Cooke played in both of Seattle’s major wins over the Dream and Liberty but did not score. Her minutes remain limited, though she continues to contribute defensively.
