A’ja Wilson Earns Third Straight WNBA Player of the Week Honor
On Tuesday, the WNBA named South Carolina women’s basketball alum A’ja Wilson the Western Conference Player of the Week, marking her third consecutive weekly award and fifth overall this season.
Wilson’s dominant stretch has practically secured her the Western Conference Player of the Month for August — which would be her first of 2025.
The recognition comes after Wilson averaged 29.0 points, 12.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.3 steals, and 2.7 blocks per game from August 18–24. Her efforts powered the Las Vegas Aces to three straight wins during that span.
Vegas has now won 11 games in a row, losing just once over the last month. The Aces have already clinched a WNBA Playoff berth and currently sit as the No. 3 seed. Wilson has been central to the surge, recording at least 30 points in five games and tallying eight double-doubles during the streak.
Wilson’s career numbers continue to soar as well. She has now collected 27 Western Conference Player of the Week honors, second only to Tina Charles (33) in WNBA history. With two weeks left in the regular season, Wilson could surpass her own record for most Player of the Week awards in a single season, after winning six in 2024.
Her recent hot streak has also reignited the MVP conversation. While BetMGM still lists Napheesa Collier as the frontrunner, Wilson’s surge has closed the gap, turning what once looked like a runaway race into a battle.
The Aces’ championship outlook is rising as well. According to BetMGM, Vegas has climbed back into the top three title favorites, trailing only the Minnesota Lynx and the defending-champion New York Liberty.
