South Carolina’s Travian Robertson Making Strides in Recovery After Serious Car Accident
Nearly two and a half weeks after being involved in a devastating car accident, South Carolina defensive line coach Travian Robertson is continuing to make progress in his recovery.
On the morning of August 22, Robertson was in a head-on collision on U.S. 76 in Richland County. Tragically, the driver of the other vehicle died at the scene. Robertson was rushed to the trauma ICU at Prisma Health Richland Hospital and remained there until his release late last week. (Authorities confirmed no charges were filed in the incident.)
In a photo Robertson shared on Facebook Friday, he appeared in a wheelchair with a boot on his left leg, giving fans and colleagues their first public glimpse at his recovery.
Though he is not yet physically able to be on the field, Robertson has already found ways to contribute as the Gamecocks prepare for Saturday night’s matchup with Vanderbilt.
“He was able to Zoom in and be a part of the defensive staff meetings yesterday, when our staff was putting together the initial game plan,” head coach Shane Beamer explained on Tuesday. “He’s involved from that standpoint, and getting closer to when he can physically return.”
In Robertson’s absence, responsibilities for the defensive line have been shared by assistant DL coach Jordan Dove and assistant strength coach Jamil Walker. On game days, Dove has worked from the press box to analyze opponent tendencies, while Walker has managed personnel rotations on the field.
Beamer praised their efforts, noting that their teamwork has helped ease the transition while Robertson recovers.
“I know he’s eager to get back at it,” Beamer said, emphasizing both Robertson’s determination and the staff’s support during his recovery journey.
