Night kickoff set for South Carolina’s home game vs. Kentucky

On Monday, South Carolina got official word on its upcoming clash with Kentucky. The SEC announced that the Gamecocks will host the Wildcats on September 27th, with kickoff set for 7:45 p.m. at Williams-Brice Stadium. The game will air on SEC Network and stream through the ESPN app.

It marks the third night game in Columbia this season. The Gamecocks already played under the lights in their Week 2 win over South Carolina State and again in their Week 3 loss to Vanderbilt. Their Week 4 matchup at Missouri — in the other Columbia — is also scheduled as a night contest.

The Kentucky game had initially been listed under the SEC’s “flex” designation before the time slot was locked in.

South Carolina enters the week at 2-1, with Shane Beamer’s team traveling to Missouri this Saturday before returning home for the Wildcats. Kentucky, also 2-1, dropped its only SEC matchup so far against Ole Miss. The Wildcats have a bye this weekend, giving them extra rest ahead of the trip to Columbia.

There’s some added spice to this rivalry. A few years ago, Beamer and Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops exchanged words in the media, fueling tension between the programs. On the field, South Carolina has flipped the script — the Gamecocks have beaten the Wildcats three straight years, reversing a stretch where Kentucky won seven of eight from 2014 to 2021.

Overall, the Gamecocks lead the series 21-14-1 and have taken 17 of the 25 matchups since 2000.
