“SEC INJURY UPDATES: Gamecocks QB LaNorris Sellers QUESTIONABLE vs. Missouri matchup”

Optimism is building around South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers’ chances of suiting up this Saturday when the Gamecocks travel to face No. 23 Missouri (3-0).

Sellers exited late in the first half of USC’s loss to Vanderbilt last weekend after sustaining a concussion and did not return. Since then, head coach Shane Beamer has kept quiet regarding his quarterback’s availability.

On Wednesday night, however, the SEC-mandated student-athlete availability report offered a glimmer of hope. Sellers was officially listed as “questionable,” a status that suggests progress.

Beamer, while declining to get into medical details, reiterated South Carolina’s long-standing rule: “guys who don’t practice on Tuesday and Wednesday won’t play on Saturday.” Encouragingly for USC, Sellers was back at practice on Wednesday. Phil Kornblut of SportsTalk Media Network reported that the sophomore quarterback “should be fine for the Missouri game this Saturday.”

Despite entering 2025 with Heisman buzz, Sellers has faced early-season struggles. Through three games, he has completed 64% of his passes for 431 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing for fewer than 50 yards in total.

When Sellers left against Vanderbilt, veteran backup Luke Doty took over. The offense faltered in his seven drives, failing to score and committing three turnovers. That only underscored the importance of having Sellers available as South Carolina (2-1, 1-0 SEC) looks for its first conference road win.

Alongside Sellers, the Gamecocks’ midweek injury report highlighted other concerns:

Questionable

  • QB LaNorris Sellers
  • WR Mazeo Bennett

Doubtful

  • DB Judge Collier
  • TE Michael Smith

With kickoff set for 7 p.m. Saturday on ESPN, South Carolina’s hopes of pulling off the upset hinge on whether No. 16 is cleared to lead the offense.
