Two Gamecocks Cleared, One Added to Injury List Ahead of Oklahoma Showdown
South Carolina received a boost Friday night as two key players were officially cleared to suit up for Saturday’s SEC clash against No. 14 Oklahoma at Williams-Brice Stadium.
According to the SEC’s latest availability report, defensive lineman Gabe Brownlow-Dindy and offensive lineman Shed Sarratt Jr. were removed from the injury list after being limited throughout the week. Their absence from Friday’s update confirms they’ll be available to play against the Sooners.
Meanwhile, defensive back Brandon Cisse remains probable and is expected to be active after missing time with a knee injury.
However, there was a new concern on the Gamecocks’ report — reserve offensive lineman Jatavius Shivers has been listed as questionable for Saturday’s matchup.
Several players remain ruled out, including wide receiver Brian Rowe Jr., defensive tackle Davonte Miles, and offensive linemen Cason Henry and Nolan Hay, all of whom were sidelined earlier in the week.
Sarratt’s return is particularly notable after he suffered an ankle injury during last weekend’s game at LSU. The injury occurred on Matthew Fuller’s 72-yard touchdown run, which gave South Carolina its only lead of the night. While his teammates celebrated, Sarratt remained down on the turf before being assisted off by the training staff and later seen using crutches.
Cisse, on the other hand, went down with a knee injury in the second quarter against the Tigers. He stayed on the ground for several minutes as head coach Shane Beamer and teammates gathered around before being helped to the sideline. He has since been practicing lightly with a brace on his left leg.
Cason Henry and Nolan Hay continue to recover from previous injuries. Henry, who injured his shoulder against Vanderbilt, briefly returned versus Missouri before re-aggravating the issue. Hay, who made his first career start against the Tigers, exited that game with a knee injury.
A final injury report will be released 90 minutes before kickoff on Saturday.
The SEC introduced the official player availability report last season, requiring schools to provide injury updates three days before each football game, followed by daily adjustments and a final pregame report. The designations — available, probable, doubtful, or questionable — mirror the NFL-style reporting system.
The Gamecocks (3-3, 1-3 SEC) host the Oklahoma Sooners (5-1, 1-1 SEC) on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 12:45 p.m. ET, with coverage airing live on SEC Network.
