COLUMBIA — After South Carolina’s 26-7 loss to No. 14 Oklahoma, head coach Shane Beamer revealed that three players were suspended prior to the game for what he described as “a violation of team standards.”
The suspensions affected wide receiver Brian Rowe, defensive end Anthony Addison, and defensive lineman Davonte Miles, all of whom did not suit up for Saturday’s contest.
“Accountability is a core value of our program,” Beamer said. “And whether you’re 3-3 or 6-0, the core values and the accountability don’t change.”
Suspensions Hit Depth Chart
Freshman receiver Brian Rowe, who was listed as “out” on the SEC’s official availability report, had been a bright spot in the offense with 10 receptions for 89 yards and one touchdown this season.
Anthony Addison, a freshman edge rusher from Bishopville, appeared in two games and recorded one tackle, while Davonte Miles, a Bowling Green transfer, had played in every game prior to Saturday and totaled three tackles and 0.5 sacks.
Beamer confirmed the suspensions were his decision, made before kickoff.
“So disappointing for them, disappointing for us — selfish decisions that certainly affected our team today, because we needed them,” Beamer said. “But they’re good kids that will learn from this, hopefully, and respond the right way. I would anticipate them being back next week. And again, that was my decision.”
Injury Woes Continue
Adding to South Carolina’s struggles, the Gamecocks suffered several key injuries during the loss — most notably to defensive end Dylan Stewart, who exited the game twice with a hip injury.
Stewart initially left after the opening drive, returned briefly, and then left the field again.
“Thought he could go. He went back in the second time, and I guess got hit on it again,” Beamer said. “I don’t have much of an update, other than just a hip injury.”
Another concern was freshman returner Vicari Swain, who broke a finger during practice on Wednesday and underwent surgery that same night. Despite the injury, Swain managed to return three punts for 55 yards, including a 31-yard return that energized the crowd.
Beamer said more updates on player injuries will be provided during his Sunday evening teleconference at 5 p.m.
What’s Next
South Carolina will conclude its two-game home stretch next Saturday, Oct. 25, when the Gamecocks face No. 6 Alabama at Williams-Brice Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. on ABC.
