South Carolina defensive line coach Travian Robertson, who suffered severe injuries in a late-August car accident, made an emotional return to Williams-Brice Stadium for the first time this season. The wreck, which sidelined him for the majority of the 2025 campaign, resulted in at least five surgeries and a long, grueling recovery.
Robertson began slowly reappearing around the program in late September, but Nov. 22 marked his first time back inside the stadium since the accident. He arrived walking alongside his family and the team, leaning on a cane for support, and later took his place in the coaches’ box during South Carolina’s dominant 51–7 victory over Coastal Carolina.
Head coach Shane Beamer said Robertson’s return meant more than words could express.
“He wanted to be there so it was really cool,” Beamer said. “It’s been an emotional year, let’s be real, whether it be from the heartbreaking losses to your defensive line coach is in a car crash and almost dies.”
Beamer revealed that Director of Operations George Wynn shared the good news just days earlier: Robertson had finally been medically cleared to rejoin the team in person.
“To be able to see Travian back tonight, be at the hotel with us for pregame today, go through Gamecock Walk, put headphones on tonight then in the locker room to celebrate after the game was pretty cool,” Beamer added.
Robertson’s presence brought a surge of emotion and inspiration to the Gamecocks, serving as a powerful reminder of resilience, recovery, and the tight-knit family within South Carolina football.
