Tyasha Harris Named South Carolina’s Latest Hall of Fame Honoree
South Carolina’s basketball Hall of Fame spotlight this week shines on Tyasha Harris, one of the most decorated point guards in program history.
Harris’ accolades span both team and individual success. She was part of South Carolina’s 2017 national championship team, and helped the program capture two SEC Regular Season titles and three SEC Tournament championships during her career in Columbia.
Statistically, Harris remains one of the most productive players ever to wear a Gamecock uniform. She’s the only player in program history to record more than 1,000 career points and 700 career assists, and holds the distinction of being South Carolina’s all-time career assist leader. Her playmaking ability also produced a program record that still stands — 220 assists in a single season.
Her individual honors reflect that level of production. Harris earned WBCA All-America honors twice, was named All-SEC three times, and capped her college career with two of the sport’s most prestigious individual awards in 2020 — the Dawn Staley Award, given annually to the nation’s top point guard, and SEC Athlete of the Year.
Harris’ college success translated directly to the professional level, as she was selected 7th overall in the WNBA Draft, continuing her career after leaving one of the most complete résumés in South Carolina women’s basketball history.
With this recognition, Harris joins an elite group of Gamecock legends honored for their lasting impact on the program — a fitting tribute to a player whose combination of championship pedigree, program records, and individual accolades places her among the most accomplished point guards to ever come through Columbia.
