Multiple Players Didn’t Finish the Game
Among those sidelined before the final whistle were defensive tackle Gabriel Brownlow-Dindy, defensive back Gerald Kilgore, linebacker Shawn Murphy, and running back Jabree Coleman. Beamer indicated the coaching staff doesn’t believe any of these injuries are long-term, though all four were scheduled to undergo testing Sunday to determine severity. His outlook was hopeful: “Hopefully we’ll get good reports back.”
Expected to Return for Alabama
Beamer offered a more concrete update on three other players — offensive lineman Carter Miller (who sat out entirely against Mississippi State), cornerback Vicari Swain, and tight end Maurice Brown II (both of whom were injured during Saturday’s game) — all of whom are expected to be available next weekend against Alabama.
Dylan Stewart’s Emotional Season Debut Cut Short
Perhaps the most significant update centered on edge rusher Dylan Stewart, who was making his season debut after missing the entire offseason while recovering from a back injury. The original plan called for Stewart to play roughly 15 to 20 snaps, with Beamer noting flexibility depending on how he looked: “And if we got out there and felt like he could do a little bit more, he would — we would.”
Stewart ultimately played 14 snaps, primarily on third downs, and made an immediate impact despite the limited workload — recording one tackle for loss and hitting quarterback Kamario Taylor twice, remaining a consistently disruptive presence in the backfield before his back injury flared up again.
Beamer Praises Stewart’s Effort
Despite the early exit, Beamer was full of praise for Stewart’s competitive spirit in his return: “Nobody can question his want-to last night because he was throwing his body around. That back just wasn’t feeling great in the fourth quarter. We’ve got a lot of football left and we had gotten out of him what we wanted to get out of him, particularly early in the game.”
The Bigger Picture
With South Carolina now sitting at 2-1 following the Mississippi State loss, managing Stewart’s workload carefully appears to be a priority given the long season still ahead. The encouraging news regarding Miller, Swain, and Brown suggests South Carolina should have most of its depth back for the difficult road trip to Alabama, even as questions remain about the severity of the injuries to Brownlow-Dindy, Kilgore, Murphy, and Coleman heading into that pivotal matchup.
