South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers delivered an impressive individual performance, but it was overshadowed by the Gamecocks’ 35-34 overtime loss to Kentucky. Sellers finished with 226 passing yards and two touchdowns, while adding an outstanding 147 rushing yards, including a 74-yard run that energized both the team and the crowd.

Despite the loss, Sellers remained focused on accountability and the need to improve.

One of the biggest talking points came on the crucial fourth-and-three play, when South Carolina appeared to have an opportunity to extend the drive. Sellers explained that the Gamecocks had called a speed option and that he saw an opening to run.

“By the time he reacted, I tried to pitch out of there, and the ball slipped out of my hand when I went to pitch it.”

The mistake ultimately became one of the defining moments of the overtime defeat, but Sellers did not attempt to shift blame.

Sellers Focused on Improving

There had also been reports that Cutter Woods received more first-team practice reps during the week. When asked whether that affected his preparation, Sellers made it clear that his approach remained unchanged.

“It doesn’t really change it. I just go through with the same mindset, stuff, process, all of that.”

Most importantly, Sellers acknowledged that his own play needs to improve, regardless of the competition around him.

“It’s not going to change. I just need to play better.”

That response highlights the quarterback’s willingness to take responsibility rather than allowing outside circumstances to become a distraction.

Trusting His Preparation

Sellers also felt that his response to adversity was better than in previous games. His approach on the sideline was centered on trusting himself, his coaches and the preparation that went into the game.

“I prepare the right way. I don’t have to do too much. I just play every play one play at a time.”

That mentality was evident in the way he continued competing after setbacks. His 74-yard rushing touchdown was particularly important, giving South Carolina momentum and bringing the Williams-Brice crowd back into the game.

Sellers emphasized that the play was bigger than his individual statistics.

“I feel like it helps the team, not just me necessarily. Getting the crowd into it helps all of us.”

No “Here We Go Again” Feeling

Sellers also addressed whether the collapse triggered a feeling of “Here we go again”, given South Carolina’s recent struggles in close games.

His response was direct:

“No.”

That answer suggests Sellers wasn’t allowing the previous disappointments to dictate his mindset. Despite the devastating loss, he remained focused on the next play, taking responsibility for his mistakes and trusting his preparation.

Overall, Sellers’ performance showed both his immense rushing ability and his willingness to accept accountability. The next challenge for him will be turning those individual flashes into consistent execution when South Carolina faces another high-pressure SEC opportunity.
