South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer confirmed that Dylan Stewart has formally apologized for his conduct during the Alabama game, though that apology has not yet translated into any change in his suspension status.

Stewart Owns Up to His Actions

Following a string of concerning incidents against Alabama — punching a Crimson Tide tight end, refusing to come out of the game, and pushing a teammate — questions lingered about whether Stewart genuinely understood the severity of his behavior. According to Beamer, speaking during his Sunday teleconference, Stewart has since apologized to both Beamer personally and the team as a whole.

No Movement on the Suspension

Despite that apology, Beamer made clear he’s not ready to lift the indefinite suspension he imposed following the Alabama incident — a suspension that, combined with a separate SEC-imposed penalty, kept Stewart out of Saturday’s 35-34 overtime loss to Kentucky. Addressing the situation directly, Beamer offered little clarity: “No update. I met with Dylan pretty much every day last week and visited with Dylan today. Will keep those conversations between us, but no update right now.”

Uncertainty Heading Into Florida

Asked specifically whether Stewart could return to practice this week and potentially play against Florida on Saturday, Beamer declined to offer any further insight, simply reiterating his earlier stance and noting he’ll share news when there is any to share.

Stewart’s Limited Impact This Season

Beyond the suspension drama, Stewart’s overall season has already been disrupted significantly. A junior widely projected as a likely first-round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft, Stewart missed the first two games of the season while rehabbing a lingering back injury from last year. In the two games he did play — against Mississippi State and Alabama — he logged just 43 total snaps and recorded a single tackle, a far cry from the disruptive, dominant presence he’s shown flashes of in the past.

The On-Field Impact of His Absence

Notably, South Carolina’s defense didn’t fall apart without him. Against Kentucky, the Gamecocks still managed seven tackles for loss and three sacks, suggesting the defensive front has found ways to generate pressure even in Stewart’s continued absence — though his long-term unavailability remains a significant storyline as South Carolina tries to stabilize a season that’s already spiraled to 2-3 amid mounting questions about the program’s direction and Beamer’s own job security.

What’s Next

With no clear timeline offered for Stewart’s potential return and South Carolina facing a tough road test against Florida this weekend, the situation remains fluid — Beamer’s measured, tight-lipped approach suggests the decision on reinstatement will come on his own terms, regardless of outside pressure or Stewart’s apology.
