Breaking Down South Carolina’s Snap Counts From the Kentucky Loss
South Carolina’s 35-34 overtime loss to Kentucky dropped the Gamecocks to 2-3 (0-3 SEC), with several players logging heavy workloads as the team leaned on its established depth chart throughout the marathon contest. Per Pro Football Focus data, here’s how the snap counts broke down.
Quarterbacks
Both LaNorris Sellers (77 snaps) and Cutter Woods (2 snaps) technically started, with an opening trick-play sequence where Woods took the first snap and handed off to Sellers, who then pitched to Matt Fuller for a nine-yard gain. Despite reports earlier in the week that Woods had taken extra first-team practice reps, Sellers ultimately played the entirety of the game, finishing with 373 total yards and two touchdowns.
Running Backs
Matt Fuller remained the clear workhorse, playing 59 snaps and logging 14 carries — more than every other running back combined. Notably, Texas transfer Christian Clark, once viewed as a potential co-starter, has fallen out of the rotation entirely, not playing a single snap against Kentucky after just three against Alabama. Jabree Coleman (8 snaps, 3 carries, 26 yards) fumbled in the second quarter, while Jawarn Howell (8 snaps) and Isaiah Augustave (2 snaps) rounded out the depth.
Wide Receivers
Nyck Harbor (63 snaps) and Mazeo Bennett (56 snaps) remain the top two options, with Bennett setting new career highs of 8 catches for 92 yards. Donovan Murph saw increased usage (40 snaps, up from 27 the week prior), while Nitro Tuggle’s playing time was nearly cut in half. Notably, Vicari Swain continued getting offensive snaps for the second straight week, this time logging three snaps with two catches for 19 yards — an interesting experiment deploying the star punt returner on offense.
Tight Ends
Brady Hunt (52 snaps) and Moe Brown (24 snaps) remain the primary options, with Brown catching a 5-yard touchdown pass and also taking a fourth-down carry that was stopped for a two-yard loss. Mike Tyler and Max Drag continue seeing situational snaps in multi-tight-end formations.
Offensive Line
South Carolina’s starting offensive linemen put in an exhausting night, with Darius Gray, Emmanuel Kojo Poku, Nolan Hay, and Jacarrius Peak each playing all 77 offensive snaps. Carter Miller was the lone starter not to play every snap, still logging 71.
Defensive Line
Tomiwa Durojaiye remained the most consistent piece up front with 61 snaps and 3 tackles. Freshman Noah Clark continued his rising workload, playing a career-high 39 snaps and recording his first career sack. Kelby Collins returned after being briefly hospitalized following an injury scare against Alabama, playing 38 snaps despite going down with apparent injuries multiple times during the game.
Edge Rushers
With Dylan Stewart continuing his indefinite suspension, South Carolina relied on Anthony Addison (54 snaps), Caleb Herring (40 snaps), and Julian Walker (39 snaps) to fill the void. Walker, making his second career start, continues showing promise as a developing option regardless of Stewart’s eventual return. George Wilson Jr. saw a notable bump to 24 snaps — more than his first two games combined and his most playing time since his final season at Campbell in 2024.
Linebackers
Fred “JayR” Johnson played every single defensive snap (81), while Justin Okoronkwo (55 snaps) also logged heavy minutes — the two combined for 22 tackles. Shawn Murphy saw a major increase in playing time (31 snaps) after playing just one snap the previous week.
Defensive Backs
Judge Collier (79), Vicari Swain (78), and Peyton Williams (78) remained the clear top three in the secondary. Kendall Daniels’ playing time continued rising for the second straight week (35 snaps) while David Bucey’s dropped correspondingly (17 snaps). Freshman J’Zavien Currence bounced back from a rough outing the week prior, playing more snaps than both Bucey and Daniels. Gerald Kilgore (41) and Quay’sheed Scott (33) continued splitting nickel duties, with Scott facing his former team.
Special Teams
Malik Orsan went 2-for-2 on field goals (long of 48 yards) and 4-for-4 on extra points. Punter Mason Love averaged 44.3 yards on four punts, while Max Kelley handled kickoffs at a 63-yard average. Vicari Swain added 23 yards on three punt returns, including one muffed return he managed to recover.
