South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer gave an encouraging injury update Tuesday ahead of Saturday’s game against Tennessee. Nearly everyone who missed the Florida game is expected back, with one exception.

What Beamer said

At his weekly press conference, Beamer told reporters, “All of the guys that missed the Florida game, we expect back for Tennessee.” The one open question is defensive back Quay’sheed Scott, whom Beamer described as the only uncertain case and said is improving.

Who missed the Florida game

Four Gamecocks sat out against the Gators:

  • Quay’sheed Scott, defensive back
  • Carter Miller, offensive lineman
  • Julian Walker, edge rusher
  • Gabriel Brownlow-Dindy, defensive lineman

Defensive back Judge Collier also left that game early with an injury. Beamer’s comments didn’t address his status.

Scott’s injury

Scott was hurt on Oct. 3 in South Carolina’s loss to Kentucky, his former team. He left around the three-minute mark of the third quarter after what looked like an upper-body injury on a hard tackle. Beamer has spoken with real concern about the injury, which kept Scott in the hospital for a time after the game.

Where the Gamecocks stand

South Carolina is 3-3 overall and 1-3 in the SEC and is coming off its bye week. The SEC’s first official availability report comes out Wednesday night, which should show who is cleared to play.
