South Carolina football’s postseason outlook is improving after consecutive victories over ranked opponents Florida and Tennessee. Those wins have strengthened the Gamecocks’ position as they approach the closing stretch of the season, giving national analysts more reasons to consider where Shane Beamer’s team might spend bowl season.

With several possible destinations emerging, projections from ESPN, CBS Sports, The Athletic, Sports Illustrated, On3 and Athlon Sports offer a variety of potential matchups. From a familiar opponent in Virginia Tech to a New Year’s Eve showdown against Southern Cal, South Carolina could have several intriguing opportunities ahead.

ESPN Offers Two Different Bowl Destinations

ESPN analysts Kyle Bonagura and Mark Schlabach disagree on where South Carolina could end up, highlighting the uncertainty surrounding the postseason picture.

Bonagura projects the Gamecocks to face Miami (Ohio) in the IS4S Salute to Veterans Bowl on December 15 in Montgomery, Alabama. The matchup would pit South Carolina against a program from the Mid-American Conference.

Schlabach, meanwhile, predicts a trip to Tampa for the Union Home Mortgage Gasparilla Bowl on December 18 against Virginia. Raymond James Stadium would be a familiar setting for Gamecock fans, as South Carolina has played there multiple times in the Outback Bowl.

Both projections would give the Gamecocks an opportunity to finish their season with another victory, although the final destination will depend on how the remaining games unfold and how bowl selections develop.

CBS Sports Sees a Reunion With Virginia Tech

CBS Sports projects South Carolina to meet Virginia Tech in the Gator Bowl on December 30 in Jacksonville, Florida.

This potential matchup carries a compelling personal connection for Beamer. He attended Virginia Tech, where his father, Frank Beamer, built a legendary coaching career and helped establish the Hokies as a national power.

The two programs already met last season in Atlanta to open the campaign, with South Carolina earning a 24-11 victory. Another meeting would give the Gamecocks an opportunity to build on that result while renewing a connection between Beamer and his former school.

CBS Sports writer Brad Crawford highlighted the appeal of the matchup.

“Shane Beamer against Virginia Tech in Jacksonville? The Gator Bowl would have its storyline ready on Selection Sunday before the coach pressers begin,” Crawford wrote. “South Carolina’s coach grew up watching his father, Frank, turn the Hokies into a national power, and facing that same program for the second time as leader of the Gamecocks would be inviting.”

The emotional storyline alone would make this one of the more interesting potential bowl games for South Carolina.

Music City Bowl Could Deliver a Big Ten Opponent

The Athletic and Sports Illustrated both identify Nashville as a possible destination, projecting the Gamecocks to play in the Music City Bowl on December 30.

The Athletic projects a matchup against Minnesota, which recently earned an upset victory over Iowa. South Carolina has never appeared in the Music City Bowl, making this a chance to visit a new postseason venue.

Sports Illustrated instead projects Michigan as the opponent. That matchup would bring back memories of the 2018 Outback Bowl, when South Carolina faced the Wolverines in a game remembered for Jadeveon Clowney’s spectacular hit during his college career.

A rematch would give Gamecock fans an opportunity to revisit that memorable meeting while seeing how the current teams compare.

On3 Projects a New Year’s Eve Trip to Las Vegas

On3 has South Carolina heading west to face Southern Cal in the Las Vegas Bowl on December 31.

A New Year’s Eve game against the Trojans would offer an attractive postseason setting. The projection also comes amid continued questions surrounding Southern Cal coach Lincoln Riley’s job security, although his situation remains separate from South Carolina’s bowl outlook.

Athlon Sports Points to Memphis

Athlon Sports projects South Carolina to play West Virginia in the Liberty Bowl on January 2.

The possibility would bring the Gamecocks back to Memphis for the first time in two decades for a bowl appearance. South Carolina last played a bowl game there in 2006, defeating Houston 44-36.

A Promising Postseason Picture

Although these projections differ, the common theme is that South Carolina is gaining momentum. Consecutive wins over ranked opponents have improved the Gamecocks’ postseason outlook and created several possibilities for a compelling bowl matchup.

Whether the destination is Montgomery, Tampa, Jacksonville, Nashville, Las Vegas or Memphis, the priority remains the same: finish the season strongly and earn the best possible postseason opportunity.

The projections are not official bowl invitations, and South Carolina’s eventual destination will depend on its remaining results and the selection process. For now, the Gamecocks have given themselves reason to look ahead with renewed optimism.
