Duke vs. Coastal Carolina: How to Watch, Tip-Off Time and Everything to Know for Freshman Night
Duke men’s basketball plays Coastal Carolina on Thursday, Nov. 5, at 8:00 p.m. at Cameron Indoor Stadium. It is also Freshman Night, with a student tailgate and a competition between freshman dorms.

Freshman Night Tailgate
The Cameron Crazies are teaming up with Duke Athletics and Residential Assistants for a tailgate that starts at 4:00 p.m. in K-Ville. Activities include poster-making and blue paint. The event also includes a competition among freshman dorms:
- The prize: The dorm with the most students at the game gets a pizza party delivered by the men’s basketball team.
- How to be counted: Check in for the Freshman-Only Registration Line from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Line Monitor (LM) table in K-Ville. If you can’t be in K-Ville by 6 p.m., join the Tip-Off Line instead.
- Free food: Freshmen who RSVP by Wednesday, Nov. 4, get a free walking taco. That deadline is today, and the RSVP link is in the Cameron Crazies’ bio.
Game day schedule
- 7:00 a.m.: The Registration Line opens at the LM table by the K-Ville sign. One-third of your group must be present to register and stay in K-Ville until line-up begins. Check in when you arrive. You don’t need to check out.
- 4:00 p.m.: Freshman Night Tailgate begins.
- 6:00 p.m.: The Registration Line closes. Line-up begins, and all group members must be in K-Ville. The Tip-Off Line opens on the sidewalk closest to the K-Ville sign.
- 6:30 p.m.: Undergraduate doors open. The Registration Line enters Cameron, followed by the Tip-Off Line.
- 8:00 p.m.: The Tip-Off Line closes, then it’s tip-off.
How Freshman Night entry works
There are two registration lines: a General Registration Line and a Freshman-Only Registration Line. Students enter in this order:
- The first 200 students from the General Registration Line
- The entire Freshman-Only Registration Line
- The remaining General Registration groups
- The students in the Tip-Off Line
Students who want to join the Freshman-Only line must register before it closes at 6:00 p.m. The freshman line forms at the front of K-Ville, between Card Gym and Wilson. Freshmen who can’t arrive until later can still join the Tip-Off Line after registration closes.
On the court
Duke’s earlier exhibition wins suggest a strong team. One preseason projection from Sports Illustrated has the Blue Devils beating Coastal Carolina 91-67, which would put them at 2-0 after their season opener. That is a projection, not a result. I couldn’t confirm the outcome of Duke’s earlier game against Army.
