South Carolina Fans Deserted Football Team After Refusal To Fire Coach

South Carolina’s season continued to spiral this weekend, as the Gamecocks suffered their fourth loss in five games, falling 26-7 to Oklahoma inside a half-empty Williams-Brice Stadium. What began as a year filled with promise and national hype has turned into a frustrating freefall, with the offense taking most of the blame.

After entering 2025 ranked inside the preseason Top 15 and riding the momentum of last year’s six-game win streak, South Carolina’s attack has completely stalled under new offensive coordinator Mike Shula. Once expected to build on LaNorris Sellers’ breakout freshman campaign, the unit has instead regressed dramatically — leaving fans furious and calling for major change.

Fire Mike Shula!” chants echoed through the stands on Saturday as the Gamecocks managed just seven points and 224 total yards. The numbers paint an even bleaker picture: South Carolina ranks 121st nationally in total offense, 126th in sacks allowed, and has scored fewer than 21 points in every game this season.

Following the 10-point showing against LSU two weeks ago, offensive line coach Lonnie Teasley was fired, but Beamer has so far refused to extend that shake-up to Shula. When pressed after the Oklahoma loss about possible staff changes, Beamer curtly responded, “I made a change last week, Jack.”

Shula, a former Alabama head coach and longtime NFL assistant, was hired this offseason to replace Dowell Loggains, who left for Appalachian State. But his play-calling and inability to adjust to constant offensive line breakdowns have quickly worn thin with both fans and analysts.

The frustrations aren’t limited to the scoreboard. Despite trailing by only 10 late in the third quarter, fans poured out of the stadium long before the final whistle. Photos of the empty seats went viral on social media, with one caption reading, “Year 4 for Beamer. Fourth quarter against a top-25 team. Nobody is here. Nobody cares.”

With Alabama, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, and rival Clemson still left on the schedule, the road ahead doesn’t get any easier. Beamer’s refusal to make further offensive changes could soon test not only the patience of the fanbase — but also the stability of his own tenure in Columbia.
